Girramay Traditional Owner and emerging artist John Murray lives at Murray Upper, north-west of Cardwell. John began painting with Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre in 2008 and immediately found working creatively as a positive outlet for expression and communication hitherto impacted by his disabilities.
John loves to experiment with various mediums such as drawing, print-making, painting and ceramics in order to convey his stories. His works celebrate tales of going fishing and camping, living in the rainforest, a love of trucks, trains and cars, watching favourite sports on television, family life and traditional stories.
I really like coming to Girringun. I’m always drawing. It gives me something to do. It makes me feel really good inside. I get to tell people about my life and all of the stories – John.
This painting is about traditional objects.
