Sea and Sand – Salt water story

This is a story about the animals that live on the land and the sea – some of the animals we eat. Dugong and stingray feed along the edge – they don’t go too deep. The trevalli, he feeds along the edge too and goes in the deep water as well, The sea turtles buries his eggs in the sand and then goes back out to the sea. Barramundi swims in saltwater and freshwater but we have to be careful not to let a pregnant woman eat the barra because he can swim in the deeper water and hold his breath.  If she eats barra this could be transferred to her and the child.

We eat all of these animals if we catch them, we only catch them if we need some tucker, we don’t take more than we need, back then we didn’t have a refrigerator and so we could only keep enough for us to eat
